The Institute for Professional Engagement assists students in actively engaging in career exploration, selection, and preparation while working towards a degree at Utah Valley University through the CareerPassport program.
The CareerPassport program is a voluntary, self-paced, non-graded, no-cost program available to all UVU students. The program addresses the career preparation needs of students at any stage of their academic experience by providing three levels of participation:
- The CareerPassport Club
- The CareerPassport Track Certifications
- The Engaged Learning University Distinction (ELUD)
By the end of the program, students will possess expansive career knowledge, developed career tools, employment networks, and the experience needed to make them stand out in the workplace and life.

When I joined the CareerPassport team, the program already had a name ,but it needed a visual identity that students could relate to and get excited for.
After creating an actual passport for program, I created a recruitment brochure that we handed out at orientations and classroom presentations.
For the CareerPassport program and club, we hosted several special events such as a lecture series, a hot topic discussion series, and a program retreat.
Branding and Design
As I thought about the program’s name and structure, I thought it would be important to design materials that could create a parallel between travel and career development. Thus, I created a program inspired passport and a corresponding set of stamps.
The stamp collection included one stamp for each certification track, specific accomplishments within the program, and participation in the corresponding club. Each of the design elements below were created as design elements to promote specific aspects of the program.
Additionally, we created an actual passport and set of stamps to help students feel their advancement and participation through the program.
After I created the branding for the UVU CareerPassport Program, I used the guidelines to create various recruitment materials. I designed a set of retractable banners, recruitment presentations, and brochures. This that we could set up at orientations and recruitment fairs.
Special Events Promotion
As we scheduled and promoted various events, we used a variety of promotional tactics, such as:
- Handed out fliers that were designed as event-specific boarding passes in the halls.
- Sent various school vice presidents personalized hard copy invitation letters.
- Sent digital invites to all of our program participants, asking them to bring a friend.
- Created posters that were uploaded and shared on various campus digital bulletin boards.
As participants registered for these events, we entered them to win an early registration prize. When we promoted a special guest lecturer, they would be entered to join a luncheon with the guest speaker.
